St.Patrick's Day Event~ Gold Rush RPG

[Marsh]

"Heyyyy... I've heard of them! They're most scary! They can tread on rose plants and the cockatrice doesn't feel a thing! I mean poor plants!!!!" she wailed as she reluctanty climbed the mountain.

[Horsie]

"There was a cockatrice in one of Horsie's favourite T.V shows, Merlin." Diosca shivered. "It looked really scary!"

[Marsh]

(Are they in Merlin shows too? I thought it was just MLP? Are they actual myths?)

[Horsie]

(OOC: There was a Cockatrice in Merlin, Series 1 Episode 4 I think, they are mythological creatures in many legends!)

(OOC- yeah I'm pretty sure it goes back to ancient legend times.)

"I hear ya sister..." Lynn agreed with Diosca, gasping for air as he made a giant leap onto an uneven boulder that was in the way of the narrow trail. When Diosca voiced her idea, he gave a slight nod of approval.
"That's a good idea. We don't want any clouds to go out of control and for any of us to go plunging to our deaths." he laughed, only half-joking. "But at least it seems that we're getting closer!" Lynn's eyes brightened as he looked upwards to see that the sparkly clouds looked bigger, now that they've been trekking along for awhile. "We'll be there in no ti-" the pup cut off abruptly at a a throaty caw in the bushes a few fox-lengths away. The branches rustled slightly, as if something was prowling the pups, but had clumsily slipped while doing so. Lynn stared wide eyed in it's direction.
"Uhh.... what was that?"

[Horsie]

Diosca, eyes wide, stammered: "I-I'm n-n-not sure. M-maybe it's f-friendly?"
Slowly she advanced towards the bush, her pinchy-claw at the ready. Carefully she moved the claw towards the bush, and used it to pull aside some leaves. At first, she saw nothing, until...
"COCKATRICE!" she screamed as a large head poked its way through the bushes and grabbed Diosca's pinchy-claw. "RUUUUUUUN!"

[Marsh]

"Everyone stay calm and keep your eyes shut!" she shouted at the gang while slowly edging to the bush, her eyes glued shut. She kept going until she was right in front of the bush. She reached out with her paw and started to feel inside the bush.

[Brownie]

"They turn you into ssstone? I thought that wasss what Medusssa did?" Sammy hissed, wanting to do a staring contest with the Cockatrice (But she wasn't that unwarey of it's dangers, so she didn't actually do it).

"I think both do--" Eileen started, but she was interupted by a sudden yell.

"COCKATRICE!" Diosca screamed, flailing her arms. "Run!"

"EEKSSS!" Sammy suddenly squeeked, slithering about. She had an advantage, though, since snakes mainly sensed things rather than see things with their eyes, so if she closed them it wouldn't be as much of a problem as it is for pups.

"How am I supposed to climb when I have my eyes shut, and how are we going to get to the rainbow if we don't get to the top of this mountain?!" she said, tingling with nervousness all over. But even though she really wanted to get to the rainbow, she kept her eyes closed, for it would've been foolish of her if she didn't close them.

"How about we jussst leave the thing alone and let it go away? There'sss not much elssse we can do." Sammy hissed.

"But who knows how long that'll take!" Eileen said.

"Well then what do you sssuggessst we do?" Sammy said as she looked for another ledge, waiting for a reply.

[Horsie]

"Wait, they turn you into STONE?!" Diosca yelped, closing her own eyes. The mountain was a mad scurry of pups and snakes moving, and Diosca could barely hear herself think.
"Dearies, can you all stop running away, I want to help you!"
Wait... who said that? Diosca thought confusedly. Slowly she opened one eye, followed by another, and found herself staring into the face of the cockatrice.
But... she definitely wasn't stone. She looked down at herself, and her fur was still long and fluffy. She wiggled her tail and blinked a few times.
The cockatrice sighed, and Diosca realised the voice had come from it when it spoke again. "Common misconception, cockatrices only turn people to stone when they want to, and most of us don't tend to make a habit out of it; there'd be stone statues everywhere if we did!" she - At least Diosca assumed she was a she - gave a chuckle.
"We're not actually a very violent species, most people just get a bit scared by our appearance.
"Anyway, the reason I came out was to tell you all that if you carry on this way it'll take you hours to get to the top. I know a shortcut, just though here," she motioned to the bushes she had come from. Diosca didn't move.
"Oh really," said the cockatrice crossly, "If I wanted to kill you by now it would have been pretty easy. Now come along; the St. Pattie's rainbow won't stay there for long if you keep dawdling!"

(OOC: Remember guys, the deadline is March 30th, at 6:00 PM. But if you do not finish the story by then, that’s fine, I'll be finishing the rest of it. ^^

I won't be able to post today though, so don't be afraid to go on without me. Just make sure the pups don't actually discover what's at the end, that's for me to decide as it has to do with the prize. >:3

River heard the sounds the the strange things being said. He seen "Diosca" and followed the cockatrice. River was not really sure about this but he followed just the same. He wondered if they would reach the rainbow before it was to long.

[TLOSpyrogirl]

"C-c-cockatrice?" Shep stammered, following the others slowly as they said goodbye to McGrymer. "L-like that thing in Friendship is Magic that nearly froze Fluttershy?" Pausing, Shep quickly added, "Of course I don't watch My Little Pony... T-that's girl stuff. Soniki—Soniki is the one who—"

Shep, trying to cover his case despite the fact that nobody except Bianca (who slithered on merrily ahead unknowing of Shep's plight) was listening, barely heard the scream of "COCKATRICE"!

"AAH! Where?!" Shep cried, eyes snapping shut as he stumbled blindly around the mountain.

"What am I sssupposed to do?" Bianca hissed. "I don't have eyelidsss!"

By the time the cockatrice had time to explain herself, Shep was cowering in a bush he had stumbled upon with his paws on his face and his rump shaking in the air. However, he raised up when he heard the cockatrice, flinching as he looked at it. "I don't know about this guys," Shep voiced quietly, timidly creeping up to the others. "A shortcut through a shortcut? Why wouldn't have McGrymer noticed this the first time he came?"

[Horsie]

Diosca turned away from the cockatrice to look at Shep. "Hmm... I agree... but Mcgrymer doesn't live on the mountain, maybe he didn't know? And none of us have been turned to stone... yet..."
"If you've finished debating dearies, I'll be just through here," the cockatrice sighed.
"I say we've got nothing to lose!" Diosca barked, following her.

[TLOSpyrogirl]

Whimpering softly, Shep quelled his fears and followed the pups and snakes as they trailed the friendly cockatrice. What else could he do, after all? There was now way he and Bianca could find the rainbow on their own—they might get lost and never get out! And anyway, it would be such a shame if they did find their way there only to realize everyone else had arrived an hour ago!

So, though he suspiciously eyed the cockatrice, he continued on (if not a bit reluctantly) and decided to follow TLO's advice—"Don't always assume the worst in people!"

[Horsie]

It turned out the shortcut wasn't very long at all. The cockatrice led them through some bushes and they came out not five minutes later , looking decidedly closer to the top of the mountain. In fact, Diosca could see it's peak from where she was, the thick clouds circling it.
"Thank you, Miss Cockatrice!" Diosca barked. The cockatrice gave a small bow of her head and retreated into the bushes. Diosca ran up the mountain, a renewed sense of energy coursing through her. Soon, she was at the peak.
Her breath caught in her throat as she looked out. It was beautiful. She could see rivers and valleys and forests, and through it all stretched the vibrant rainbow.
She waited for the other pups. Curiously she sniffed one of the dense clouds. It smelled a bit like candyfloss. She look a tentative lick.
"Bleurgh!" It certainly didn't taste like candyfloss. That's probably a good thing... mused Diosca, otherwise I'd probably eat it.
She poked the cloud with her paw. It definitely seemed solid, solid enough to ride on! She knew they would reach the end of the rainbow soon; she could feel it.

[Marsh]

Arietty bounded through the shortcut to the peak (and after cautiously checking it) she scrambled onto the cloud and pulled up a tuft of cloud to steer with. "I'm the driver!" she yapped playfully before continuing on like an advertiser "Everyone aboard Arietty Cloud Express, one way route to the end of the rainbow, free travel!"

[TLOSpyrogirl]

"Thank you," Shep said quietly, not wanting to admit he had been wrong. Luckily everyone was distracted by Arriety's cry.

Laughing, Shep, testing the hardness of the cloud with his paw despite the fact that Arriety was already on it, allowed Bianca to wrap herself around his neck as he climbed with little difficulty on the white mass. The cloud sank around him like a plushy seat but easily held his weight. "Come on, everybody!" Shep called down to any reluctant puppies. "This is cool!"

"Agreed," Bianca hissed, cuddling into the cloud's little puffs. "Sssso warm, jussssst like a nice sssun-baked rock."

[Marsh]

For a while, Arietty followed the instructions given by Mcgrymer. Encouraging everyone forwards and back and steering the fluffy cloud around non-magical clouds, birds, insects and other things that might be in the air. Her eyelids slowly started to close, and close and close.... Dangerously, the cloud plumetted to the ground when suddenly she woke up and veered them up at last minute, but not before giving herself a massive thorn stuck in her pad and a scratch on her paw.

[Brownie]

"What am I sssupposed to do?" Bianca hissed. "I don't have eyelidsss!"

"Cover your eyesss with your tail, or climb onto Shep and hide your eyesss in his fur like I'm doing with Eileen!" Sammy hissed back.

"Dearies, can you all stop running away, I want to help you!" a voice said. It was not a voice like that of the pooca's, though. It was a voice sort of like the voice of a griffin.

"AHH! Who said that?!" Eileen squeeked, flailing her arms and closing her eyes even tighter.

Sammy let her eyes out of Eileen's fur, in order to see. Suddenly, he saw the tail of a dragon's, except it was not at all like Riutu's tail. This was the tail of a cockatrice.

"Common misconception, cockatrices only turn people to stone when they want to, and most of us don't tend to make a habit out of it; there'd be stone statues everywhere if we did!" the cockatrice sighed, and Sammy poked his head out of Eileen's fur to see the whole body of the cockatrice. The cockatrice spoke again. "We're not actually a very violent species, most people just get a bit scared by our appearance."

"Is that t-true?" Eileen questioned, uncovering one eye.

"Well, I don't sssee why not. They probably only do it when they're in a bad mood, or asss defense. Perhapsss the mean onesss do it for amusssment, but this one ssseemsss friendly enough..." Sammy said. "I think they look funnier than their name sssoundsss." she whispered, chuckling. The cockatrice looked at her suspiciously.

"Sammy, don't say that! It might turn you into stone if it hears you saying something like that!" Eileen whispered. The cockatrice went a few steps closer to them. "Uh...Hi!" Eileen grinned, sitting up straight. The cockatrice lost interest and turned towards the other pups.

"Anyway, the reason I came out was to tell you all that if you carry on this way it'll take you hours to get to the top. I know a shortcut, just through here," the cockatrice motioned to the bush. At first Eileen was a bit uneasy, but changed her mind when she looked to the top of the mountain. She was only about half way there, and already it seemed that it had taken several hours climbing. She followed the cockatrice towards the bushes.

"These bushes are so prickly, they keep poking my eyes!" Eileen murmured, pushing her way through with Sammy coiled around her chest. But then a little light appeared. "Daylight!" Eileen yipped, running towards the light.

"At the top already? Wasss that a tunnel we went through?" Sammy hissed.

"Race you to the clouds!" Eileen laughed, waiting for the pups to get ready. Then she darted to the clouds, but went to a quick stop when she realized that what she was doing wasn't very wise when they were on the mountain peek. Arriety jumped onto a cloud, and seeing that it was solid, Eileen jumped aboard with her.

"I'm the driver!" Arriety yipped playfully. "Everyone aboard Arietty Cloud Express, one way route to the end of the rainbow, free travel!"

"Yay!" Eileen smiled, and Sammy slithered down her leg onto the cloud.

"It's ssso sssoft!" Sammy hissed.

"It is, isn't it?" Eileen rolled over on her back, and started waving her her arms and legs. "Look, a cloud angel!" she laughed with Sammy.

Not forgetting her manners, Sammy shouted to the cockatrice, "Thanksss!"

"Thank you!" Eileen waved goodbye to the cockatrice. Then the other pups leaned forward to the end of the cloud, making it move forward. All was going well so far, and Eileen didn't have a care in the world--Other than the fact that one of them might fall off the edge of the cloud, but that was unlikely. Sammy especially wasn't very worried about anything.

Arriety was looking a little sleepy, though, but Sammy and Eileen didn't think much of that. But suddenly, without warning, the cloud slowly went down. Arriety had fallen asleep! "Eeksss!! Arriety, wake up!" Sammy squeeked. She woke up, and just before they hit a fairly tall tree, Arriety had gotten hold of the "joy stick."

Eileen gasped, taking a deep breath and was glad that they hadn't crashed. "Perhaps you should take a nap while someone else steers?" Eileen said, shivering with fright. Her eyes were as big as dinner plates when she said this.

[Horsie]

Diosca was also on the cloud with Arietty, Sam and Eileen, as the clouds turned out to be a lot bigger than they looked.
"Perhaps you should take a nap while someone else steers?" she said Eileen say worriedly. Diosca agreed. "I'll do it," she offered, having been itching to have a go.
She took the imaginary helm, and began steering, moving carefully to the left and right, back and forwards, to test the controls. It took a while to get the hang of and not jerk everywhere.
Eventually she began to move more smoothly, hoping she hadn't made anyone feel too sick.
She moved to the left, so the rainbow was directly above the cloud. The cloud floated upwards, as if it were drawn to the multi-coloured spectrum. She moved slightly to the right, so she ended up riding right next to it.
Cautiously, she stretched out a paw to try and touch the rainbow.
It was solid.
"Oh My Cookie... GUYS! It's solid! Look, everyone come over here on your clouds! The rainbow's solid! We can slide down the rainbow!"
Carefully, she padded to the edge of the cloud, and tested her weight on the edge of the rainbow. Carefully she put her other front paw on it, followed by one back paw, and then the other. She was standing on a rainbow.
She stopped for a moment to marvel at this, before looking down the multi-coloured path. It dipped down, ending somewhere in a clearing in a forest in the distance.
"Right, so if we all come on and use the rainbow to slide- WOAH!"
Diosca had slipped and began to hurtle down the rainbow-slide already.
After the initial shock had passed, she realised how fun it was. The slide went on and on and on, fast and fun. She hoped the others had followed her.
"WHEEEEEE!" She wasn't sure how long she had been on the rainbow-slide for, it could have been a minute, or it could have been ten, when the rainbow began to dip sharply. Holding her breath, Diosca went faster until she could see the green clearing beneath her. She squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the impact, and instead she softly floated down to the ground. They had done it. They had reached the end of the rainbow.

(OOC: Is my post okay? I don't think I power-played any other characters but I did finish the story because we went past 6pm... :/)
