It's been three days since I've seen him.
Hiya, Misty here. You're just on time! I'm on a mission.
Three days ago I was hanging out with my cousins. For half the morning we were playing hide and seek, so naturally I was parched after a while. I thought I would go to the river and cool off a bit before they found me again as a little raisin, so I snuck out from the bushes and crept, ninja-style, down to the river bank. It was actually really unnerving, because I felt that any moment Auki and Tala could materialize from the water or fall from a branch above or pounce on me from within the bushes. I felt watched, but all I could hear was my heart thumping and my tongue lapping up that life-giving liquid. It was quite melodious, actually.
So, my mission?
Well, after a few minutes of uneasy silence, I stuck my head in the water and started blowing bubbles. I think I had forgotten I was being hunted by my younger relatives.
Then, when I opened my eyes, I saw him.
Granted, I didn't see much more than a shadow, but it was enough to scare the bujeebers out of me and make me run back to the Pack Grounds.
Who was it that I saw? I had to find out.
When I returned this morning, I gathered up my courage and stuck my head back in the water. At first, I didn't see anything. At least, not clearly. After a little while I thought I saw a goldfish at the bottom of the river, hidden within the muck.
It started to come closer....and closer...
I had to take a breath, but when I put my head back in the water and opened my eyes, the creature was inches from my nose.
It was not a goldfish.
My Amma had told me about creatures that made their home in the waters of Lunaryk, sometimes referred to as a legend, because for a long time now they have not been seen. Though on land they scoot around like mobile potatoes, in the water they race like horses across a field, using their large flippers and powerful tails to push themselves forward. They can hold their breath for up to two hours, and use echolocation to hunt for fish in murky rivers, but coolest of all, it turns out they are very friendly!
Meet Locke, the water horse!
He's big, much bigger than a goldfish, but he's very polite, and he has the loveliest Scottish accent (not sure how he got it, though).
*ehem* But I'm getting distracted. Most importantly, our new friend needs some help! I was going to go right now, actually!
...
...
I'm back! Locke sure is nice, it'll be fun having him and his sister as neighbors. You know, now that there are waterhorses around, maybe I can finally convince Master to-oh, here she comes!
Signed,
